LPC EOY Meeting and Competition

Hola! It’s party time! Come celebrate another successful year for the Loudoun Photo Club. We have such an awesome group of people. This is a great time to get to know each other and share our work. Guests are welcome.

Anyone who won 1st or 2nd place in one of this year’s competitions is welcome to submit those images for the End of Year Competition. All images need to arrive by 7 p.m. to be included. Club matting rules apply to all but the Meadowlark exceptions. We need everyone there to vote for this year’s Photo of the Year!

The club will provide the main dish (Mexican Style) and the sodas. If you would like to bring a side dish or dessert to share, you are welcome to do that. Just make your selection from the drop down box below. It’s BYOB for those of you who want something a little stronger than soda.

Members are welcome to bring your portfolios or laptops to share your images with the group. If you’d like to have your images projected on the big screen, bring a disk or a thumb drive.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Denise & Michelle

LPC Photo Competition 2009-2010 Season

This is the tenative competition schedule for the coming season.

  • September 24th: Open – Any images that are “G-rated” or “Family Friendly.”  Ideally, images would come from the photographer’s work over the “summer vacation,” but this is not required.  judge TBA
  • October 22nd: People – mages where a person or a “G-rated” portion of the human body is the central subject.  Judge: Shelley Miller
  • January 28th: Complementary color – Images containing complementary colors.  In short, colors are complementary if when mixed they form a shade of gray.  Complementary colors include Red/Cyan, Green/Magenta, Blue/Yellow.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complementary_color for more info, or do a Google search on “complementary colors.”  Judge: Josh Taylor
  • March 25th: “Hand of Man” – Images where the “hand of man” is the central subject.  This can be architecture, buildings, bridges, automobiles, boats, etc.  Anything that is made by man.  Judge: Roy Sewall
  • April 22nd: Macro and close-up – The classical definition of macro photography is that the image projected on the “film plane” (i.e., film or digital sensor) is close to the same size as the subject.  This competition will expand that definition to include “close-up” images taken by cameras or lenses that are not capable of obtaining a 1:1 magnification. Judge: Corey Hilz
  • May 27th: Nature – Images where the “hand of man” is not visible or a very minor portion of the image.  Judge: Joe Rossbach
  • June or July:  End of Year Competition – First place winners from previous months will compete for Print of the Year. Eligible entries may be expanded to include other prints at the discretion of the Contest Coordinator.

Meadowlark Submission Info at a Glance

IMPT Meadowlark Info + REQUIRED volunteering:

    • You can enter 6 images max
    • Mat can be a max of 16×20, must have a white backing board and a white over mat (the one with the hole cut in it)
    • while you can have bigger images for meadowlark than club competitions, please make sure your image can support the enlargement.  a problem in the past has been soft images from enlarging.  yes, they do care.
    • last year’s acceptance rate was about 25%.  i’m serious.  so please prepare yourself emotionally (I’m speaking from <bleep> experience).
    • Check the border rules for the mats, they really will check!!!
    • YOU MUST VOLUNTEER AT MEADOWLARK IN ORDER TO ENTER.  We’re not trying to be mean or nazis or anything.  but part of our agreement to be in meadowlark is to staff the raffle booth and the club table.  other clubs volunteer to staff ticketing, etc.  part of the benefit of being a board member is you do not have to volunteer, though I know I personally help work the club table when i’m there and can.  otherwise unless you have a medical condition or something of similar import that prevents you from volunteering, then it is a firm requirement (contact me and oscar if you think you fall into this category BEFOREHAND).  The number of hours each person volunteers depends on the number of people who enter and therefore # of volunteers.  We absolutely have to cover the raffle table.
    • Oscar will have a signup sheet for people to volunteer.  there are time slots, first come, first pick.
    • website for meadowlark (READ THE RULES, they are ultra picky): http://www.meadowlarkphotoexpo.org/
    • Fill out Oscar’s form and email it to him and bring him a printed copy: http://www.OGphoto.com/PhotoEntriesExpo2009.doc
      • email filled out form to him at oscar@ogphoto.com
