December 9, 2010: Grab Bag & LPC Holiday Party

December 9, 2010: Grab Bag – Members will pull a random object from a bag at the November 11th meeting. Members must produce color and/or monochrome pictures feature that object as a prominent part of the image at the December 9th contest/Holiday party. Images will be judged and voted on by members in attendance. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons only will be awarded for each skill level.

Alan Sislen will speak on the fine art of digital infrared (IR) photography. This will include a discussion of technical and aesthetic issues related to IR photography, including the infrared spectrum, best subjects for IR, using a point and shoot digital camera vs. a DSLR, using filters vs. having your digital camera converted for IR, and white balance and focus issues.

Wildlife Rescue Photo Exhibit Silent Auction

The Wildlife Rescue Exhibit captures nature in action with over 25 wildlife photographs from the Loudoun Photography Club. A reception and silent auction to benefit the National Wildlife Federation Gulf Oil Spill Restoration Fund is Thursday, Sept. 2, from 7:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. in the Building 2 Lower-Level Art Gallery.

LPC members photos will be on exhibit and available in the silent auction.

Aug. 26 Member Night Details

We met a few new folks and got information about the upcoming speaker and competition for September.

 

The Nature Visions competition is coming up in October and more information will be available soon. LPC will have a presence at the expo and volunteers are needed to staff the booth and contribute to the setup and breakdown of the expo.

 

During the meeting we selected Bob Brenneman to fill the position of Treasurer.  The LPC member dues were announced – $35 for individuals, $50 for families.

 

The Claude Moore Photo Expo and Waterford Photo Exhibit details were discussed and should be available through the Yahoo group.

 

Photos were collected for the upcoming GWU Wildlife Photo Exihibit. The photos will be offered up for auction next Thursday, Sept. 2 at the George Washington University campus in Ashburn.

Nikhil’s presentation will cover techniques and ideas from different ways of photographing reflections to how changing the shutter speed affects the rendition of your photograph. Long exposures and the best times of day for the desired effect will also be discussed.

Textures in Nature – The use of lighting and camera angle to accent the 3D aspect of your subject found in nature. E.g., emphasizing the 3D nature of a flower, leaf, cactus needles, etc.

End of Year Competition Results!

Tonight’s LPC End of Year party was a great event!  Once again, Denise Silva and Michelle Moomey did a wonderful job making the arrangements for the food and refreshments and Tim Pennington did an excellent job as the Competition Coordinator.  We had a big turnout of members and guests and most of the year’s best photographs were onhand for the End of Year Competition.

June 24, 2010 – LPC End-of-Year Photo Competition and Party

Join us for the 2009-2010 Season End-of-Year competition where we pick the Photo of the Year from the past year’s competition’s 1st and 2nd place photographs!  The event will be on Thursday, June 24, from 6:30 to 9:30 at the GWU-Ashburn campus in building Research 1 in the 4th floor Atrium.  LPC will be providing food and refreshments while everyone visits and votes for their favorite photo of the year.
